What do we do?

Homecoming

Homecoming at Slippery Rock University is a week long event that celebrates our great university, the town around it, our faculty, staff, students and alumni. Greeks are paired with each other to build a float, paint the town with that year's theme and celebrate our Alma mater.

Greek Week

Greek Week is the time of the Spring Semester Greeks look forward to the most. This week brings Greeks the opportunity to show off their competitive side as well as what each individual is good at. Each organization is paired up with another to participate with in Greek Week. Some events are partnered while others are individual events. Some examples of Greek Week events are chariot race, eating contest, track events, swimming events, soccer, etc.

However, Greek Week isn't just about the competition- it's about giving back to the community. Throughout Greek Week, there are several opportunties for service. Funds raised from Greek Sing & Penny Wars go to granting a local wish for Make-A-Wish, cans collected during the Can Castle building event go to a local food bank, donating blood to the American Red Cross, and books collected during Order of Omega's Apple Polishing go to the Pittsburgh Children's Library.

Apple Polishing

Hosted by Order of Omega, Apple Polishing is an event where Greeks are able to nominate a faculty, staff and professors that has gone above and beyond to help their organization. Nominees are given a certificate & gift to honor their outstanding contribution to the Greek community.

In addition, Order of Omega acknowledges the members of the Greek community that have achieved academic excellence, collects books for their philantropy, & welcomes the newest members into the Order of Omega honorary.

Alcohol Free Mix Off

Each spring, Greek Life holds the Alcohol Free Mix Off for themselves and various organizations to participate in. Each organization makes their own non alcoholic beverage based on the theme of the event. There are a group of judges that taste every beverage while there are different types of entertainment for participants to engage in, including ones that promote alcohol awareness such as a "drunk goggles" simulator.

Greek Sing

Every Spring, the Greeks look forward to showing off their creativity and singing chops at Greek Sing. Each organization goes through three rounds of singing and dancing; Formal, Informal and Partner.

Formal is a nice song without much movement. Informal is an opportunity to show off any dancing, singing, comedy skills chapters might have. Partner is when each sorority is paired up with a fraternity/multicultural fraternity to sing and dance together to get the most points.Judges outside of Greek Life are brought in to judge the organizations.

Make-A-Wish

Whether its the Arthritis Foundation, Starkey Hearing Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Push America, or Autism Speaks, Greeks hold philanthropy to a very high standard. In addition to each Greek organization hosting events to raise funds for their own philanthropies, Greek Life as a whole hosts several events throughout the year that benefit Make-A-Wish. Each year, the funds raised toward Make-A-Wish grant a local wish - even as close as Butler!

Greek Sing, Greek Carnival, & Penny Wars are just some of the many ways Greeks raise funds for Make-A-Wish. Last year in 7 hours, Greeks raised just under $2,500 during the Greek Week Penny Wars competition.
